I have a classical music background and have performed with numerous Bay Area orchestras during my more than twenty years of performing.  I am especially experienced with celtic and country folk styles.

I can teach you to read music, which is a useful tool for finding tunes and a great aid in communicating with other musicians.  However if you want to really fiddle, you must use your ears, and not be tied to the printed page.  After all, folk music was handed down for hundreds of years in an aural tradition.

So I use ear training and reading both.  I also work intensively with students to develop tone production and proper intonation.  I give lessons (to students of any age) in my Oakland studio, located near Mills College.  If you played violin as a child and would like to take it up again, or if you've never played but always wanted to.....
