"Sue is one of the best musicians I have ever met. She is incredibly versatile and
her playing in each idiom is always right on the money. When we last saw each other
she had a chair in one of the top West Coast orchestras. The repertoire was grand
stuff and the enjoyment of listening to Mahler was enhanced by the thought that she
could easily slip into the Skillet Lickers. She learned Irish fiddle in the West
Clare style so perfectly that when the great piper Willie Clancey heard her he was
truly moved and I can't think of a higher accolade than that."
"We had a band together
back in the seventies which concentrated on traditional English tunes and Sue was
right at home and made an invaluable contribution. She has played for Morris dancers
and Yugoslav troups. Latest I hear is that she has taken
up with something called the 'Green Machine' that plugs in and packs quite a punch.
I could go on and on. You only have to think of an area of music to find that Sue
has been there and been welcomed in. It is a very impressive achievement for so
modest a lady. She can't speak much Swahili though."
